SUPREME COURT STAYS DEFAMATORY PROCEEDING
Supreme Court on March 15, 2018 passed an order directing Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate not to proceed with the defamatory proceeding pending against ‘The Wire’. The bench comprising of Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud passed the instant order in Rohini Singh and Ors v State of Gujrat and Ors. The matter is now listed for April 12, 2018.
Mr. Jay Shah son of Mr. Amit Shah dragged ‘The Wire’ before the Ld. Magistrate against an article published by ‘The Wire’. The bench also preferred to issue notice on SLP preferred by ‘The Wire’ journalist Rohini Singh and founder editors of ‘The Wire’ against the January 8 judgment of Gujarat High Court refusing to quash the defamation proceedings.
