Indian National Bar Association mourns the demise of the leader who led us into this new century, new era. Starting his political career early during the Quit India Movement and being elected to parliament in 1957 as a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) of which he was a founding member. Upon becoming Foreign affairs Minister in 1977, he was the first person to address the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi. Elected as Prime Minister of India thrice in 1996, 1998-1999, 1999-2004, he has led India many tremulous and changing times like Pokhran Nuclear tests, Kargil War, Gujarat riots. He is renowned for ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan’ policy, which made India one of the leading countries in the field of Information Technology. He was awarded the highest civilian honour of the country – Bharat Ratna by President of India, Pranab Mukherjee in 2015. He was a great orator, parliamentarian, statesman, prime minister and poet who left us on 16th August 2018 in AIIMS, Delhi.
