Artificial Intelligence- Will It Lead The World?

Artificial Intelligence is a set of technologies contain computer programs and datasets which has the ability to perform a variety of advanced functions, through which it can think, learn, understand, translate, analyse data, and make recommendations and more. It is called artificial intelligence because it requires human intelligence into machines so that it can do things for which we generally rely on human.

                       Recently in April an AI scientist Goffrey Hinton who was working with Google for a decade as a developer of AI resigned to warn the people about the danger of AI. According to him “In the NYT Today, Cade Metz implies that I left Google so that I could criticize Google. Actually, I left so that I could talk about the dangers of AI without considering how that impacts Google. Google has acted very responsible”. Goffery Hinton with his two students developed a neural network which became a foundation of AI powered chatbots like ChatGPT, new Bing and Bard.

  • Chatbot is a computer programme which with the help of AI and NLP holds a human conversation with customers by understanding their problems and gives them its solutions and responses with its self-updates dynamic learning.
  • Chat GPT is also a Chatbot which with the help of artificial intelligence generate text when a user enters a prompt like it may composes emails, essays and code. It can teach itself to identify common objects like dogs, cats and flowers after analysing thousands of photos.
  • Google Bard is also a Computer programme which accepts prompts and generates answers and summarizes and also creates various kinds of content.

As in the month of April only Elon Musk and other tech experts signed an open letter regarding pause on development of chatbot and ChatGPT as it risk to society. However, Dr. Hinton did not sign it that time as he didn’t want to call out Google or other companies which are working on technologies unless he quit his job.

                  However, Dr. Hinton said AI provides benefit more than it creates risk to human. As formation of these Chatbots like ChatGPT and Google Bard is a revolutionary process which can help people through many ways. And if we pause the development of this computer programmes, it will create competition in the market and thereby other companies may get a big lead.  

  • It helps to have a human like conversations with persons by placing their quesries and resolves them.
  • It performs all functions regarding summarizing, digesting, explaining long and short texts.
  • It saves customers time and money by quickly resolve queries and give solutions.
  • Over time with its machine learning capabilities, it learn to adjust and thereby its operational costs get reduced.
  • It has also the ability to generate code from natural language prompts.
  • It manages variety of activities such as web search, smart home device management, alarm clock and to do list management etc.

However as it is progressing in a rapid pace it might be dangerous for human beings in long run and short run. As with the help of Chatbot companies lose personal touch with the need of their customers, it may become difficult in future to cope with its intellect and its self-update functionality. Such as;

  • It affects the jobs by replacing it with computer programmes like personal assistants and translators.
  • It may deteriorate human intelligence and make them lazy.
  • It has also become tough to prevent its misuse as people will use this efficient computer programme to make their money.
  • It makes it easier for students to create any essays, answers within seconds without using their mind.
  • It may spread misinformation as Chat GPT is not connected to internet, it could not able to recognize mistakes which is not feed in it.
  • With writing and running code by own, it may exercise its functions in a way than what human intelligence may think.
  • It is risking the privacy of an individual by collecting and interpreting those data also which it shall not be.

Conclusion

Therefore, AI is very useful as it is very productive and works efficiently but it is upon us as if we creating it for helping us or for wholesome work where it don’t need human intelligence anymore as this chatbot and ChatGPT could actually get smarter than people. Till today it is not taking over the world but if we continuously create or use this technology in appropriate manner, it may lead our world in near future.
