LLM STUDENT FILES FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT AGAINST SENIOR LEADER
A few days ago, was surfaced on the internet the big news of a senior BJP leader and a former Union Minister, Swami Chinmayanand sexually harassing a student of LLM course belonging to the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Swami Chinmayanand is the director of the Swami Sukhdevanand Law College, which is located in Shahjahanpur, in Uttar Pradesh, which is the college where the victim is a LLM candidate. The BJP leader also threated the victim and her family and on this the girl finally filed a complaint against the politician, saying that many girls’ lives have been destroyed.
The girl also tried to seek help from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath in this matter. “A big leader of the saint society, who has destroyed the lives of many girls, has been threatening me with life. I have all the evidences against him. I request Modi ji and Yogi ji to please help me,” she revealed.
She also added that when any girl tries to fight back or take any action against him, he blatantly threatens them with murder, claiming that he has links with all the possible forces of law.
Recently, a video got viral on the internet regarding this matter and exactly after reports came out that the girl went missing. Her phone was found switched off and her hostel room locked. The victim’s father alleged that this could very possibly not be a simple case of a person who has gone missing but it is rather a clear case of kidnapping and he has filed a complaint against Chinmayanand for this.
But sadly, the police have not registered any kind of complaint against Chinmayanand for kidnapping and no action has been taken on the written complaint.
However, the Uttar Pradesh Police was able to trace the girl in Jaipur. After her production in the High Court, the girl informed in a special sitting held in the chambers with Justice R S Bopanna and Justice Bhanumathi, that she wishes to stay in New Delhi and meet her parents there itself. And she shall decide the course of future events only after meeting her parents.
While keeping in mind of what the victim wants, the bench ordered the registry to make arrangements for her to stay at the All India Women’s Conference for a period of 4 days. The Delhi Police has also been instructed to arrange for her parents to meet her safely and comfortably. No one, including the lawyers are allowed to meet the girl before she meets her parents.
This development has taken place while keeping in mind the proceedings of suo moto, which was initiated by the Apex Court, based on the representation by a team of lawyers led by Advocate Shobha Gupta, for action on the news of the girl going missing straight away after making allegation against Chinmayanand.
When the case was taken up, the standing counsel for the Uttar Pradesh Government informed the Court that the student was found staying in Jaipur with her friends and was being taken to her parents’ house in Shahjahanpur.
Expressing her worries and troubles, Advocate Shobha Gupta, urged the court to ask her to be produced before it immediately.
The Court will now take up this matter for further consideration on the 2nd of September, 2019. A judgement that shall be fair and rewarding justice is expected on this matter as it is surely one very sensitive subject.
