SC stays the Uttarakhand High Court order: Central Rule to continue in the State

The Supreme Court in a setback to Congress on Friday stayed till April 27 the judgement of the Uttarakhand High Court quashing the imposition of President’s rule, which gave a new turn to the ongoing political drama in the state by restoring the president rule in the state. Before passing a brief order, the bench of Justice Dipak Mishra and S.K. Singh, recorded an undertaking given by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi that the Mukul Rohatgi that the “Union of India shall not revoke the Presidential proclamation till the next date of hearing”. The court took pique at the High Court for not issuing a written copy of the judgment. It pointed out that in a matter involving validity of President’s Rule, it is “proper” to have a written judgement if it is to be acted upon immediately. The next hearing is scheduled to to be on April 27th, 2016.
