TO SEEK APOLOGY FROM BRITISH GOVERNMENT FOR MASSACRE OF INNOCENT PROTESTERS IN JALLIANWALA BAGH IN AMRITSAR ON APRIL 13, 1919
DECISION MAKER: United Kingdom government
PETITION LED BY: Sr. Advocate Shri KTS Tulsi(Member of Parliament), Senior Patron, Indian National Bar Association.
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED:
The tragic massacre of innocent protesters in Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar on April 13, 1919 remains one of the most horrific memories of British colonial rule in India. This shameful military action against local peaceful gathering, has since received worldwide condemnation.
Troops of the British Indian Army, under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer, had fired on civilians who had gathered at Jallianwala Bagh for a peaceful protest on April 13, 1919 and scores of people had died. People were left helpless, as there was only single exit, which was also closed during the time of attack and no prior warning was given to the gathering. Hundreds of people jumped in to the well to save their lives and died.
However, its proper acknowledgement could only be by way of a formal apology by the British government to the people of India as we observe the Centenary of this great tragedy.
Sign this petition asking the United Kingdom government to make it possible to seek an apology from British government for massacre of innocent protesters in Jallianwala bagh in Amritsar on April 13, 1919.
By signing this petition, one can urge the UK to acknowledge that this new self-reliant India has a deep wound which needs to be recognized.
