INTERVIEW WITH MR. ARJUN GHOSE

Interviews

I, Gaurav Sandeep Karwa, am a mentor of IDIA scholars at NUJS. I assist them with the subject of Legal methods which is a part of their first-year curriculum. I have taken a brief interview of visually challenged IDIA scholars who are part of the Batch of 2024 of WBNUJS, Kolkata. In this interview, I asked them a few questions concerning their background, the journey to law school, experience in law school and their future ambitions. Their story is an inspiration for the whole legal fraternity. I wish these motivated and bright legal minds the very best for their future endeavours.

  1. MR. ARJUN GHOSE, 1ST YEAR B.A.L.L.B.
  1. Tell me about your family background and school life.

My name is Arjun Ghose, from West Bengal Hooghly. My father is a van driver, and my mother is a housewife. When I was six years old, I lost my vision pursuant to a careless surgery performed by a doctor.

  • What was the role of IDIA team in your preparations for CLAT examination?

IDIA played a significant role. When I was a student at Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys Academy, Narendrapur, Arnab Sir, who is the Director of WB Chapter of IDIA, came to my school and hosted a session regarding legal education. Pursuant to this, I gave IDIA scholarship test thrice and was selected as a scholar. It is because of IDIA; I came to know about CLAT and legal education. IDIA helped me with all materials and guidance for clearing CLAT and getting admission to NUJS.

  • How is NUJS life? What were the difficulties and challenges faced by you, during the first semester of your law school life?

When I came to NUJS, it was like a new world for me. I feel delighted to get admission to NUJS. All the faculty and my batchmates are really helpful at every step and are very supportive and motivating at the same time. Seniors at NUJS are very helpful and provide all the necessary help in academics and other activities.

However, there are some problems as well, soft copies of all the documents are not available, and only some records are readable for those documents which are available. I hope these problems will  be  solved  pursuant   to   the   inauguration   of   Accessibility   Lab   at   NUJS.   Moreover, special classes conducted by IDIA mentors at NUJS have immensely helped me to progress with subjects like Legal Methods, Contracts, Torts, etc.

  • What do you intend to pursue after completing your UG course at NUJS?

I don’t know exactly what I will be doing after graduation. I intend to appear UPSC examinations after graduating from NUJS. I feel that the job of a civil servant is very respectable and highly held in society. Through this, I will be able to serve the people for good as well.
